Emerald Worldwide is the brainchild of multimedia artist and general good guy Antoine aka Seapunch. We've had the pleasure of working with Antoine in the past, displaying his work and creating a zine and t-shirt pack in conjunction with our guys at Village Books.
Have a read and find out more about the man behind the Emerald Worldwide and his numerous other gifts to the world.
Antoine whats going on?
Chilling man, how's it going.
What you up to today?
I just got back from the Asian supermarket, bought a wide variety of ramen and some wasabi peas. I'm making BBQ jackfruit burgers with my homie Sophie later on.
What's the deal with EW? How did it come to fruition?
Emerald is a name and entity I wanted to release stuff under. I kind of wanted to slightly separate the Seapunch label when it came to clothes and publishing. Now that the clothes and objects I make aren't directly under my name, I feel like it's all more open ended and leaves room for collaborations and new ideas.
Where did the name come from?
I've always liked the look of emeralds and how bright green they are under a light, it's like an alien rock or some kind of solidified toxic sludge. The stones look special and I felt like they suited the label quite well.
Is this a one off collection or the start of something beautiful?
Hopefully this is just the beginning of something big, and more importantly something fun.
Tell us about the collection / graphics. Skunk tee is a favourite. Where'd he come from?
I always tend to collect imagery, graphics and merch from eBay and flea markets. The skunk is actually a twist on a mascot used on a flyer back in the 90's for a festival in Portland.
Whos your fav character from the Sopranos?
Too hard, next question.
Who would you like to see wearing an EW item dead or alive?
Dennis Rodman.
Whats your fav item and why?
Probably the tie-dye tote bag we made. They were all dyed in the bathtub and then I took ages to decide on a print color. They turned out hella cool in the end but I find it funny how indecisive I was with the color scheme, that's classic me.
What else is going on with you right now? Working on anything else?
I'm actually planning on moving back to the States next year, so I'm saving up for that.
For the near future I'm going to focus on Emerald and making stuff for it - whether it be clothes, funky objects and zines. There's no master plan and I'm just seeing how it all goes.
Looking back what item; zine, publication, clothing item that you've produced are you most proud of and why?
My first zine Chain of Fools from a few years ago. I feel like if I hadn't made multiple copies of it to sell online and at Village Bookshop, I never would've witnessed the reception it received and from there the ball would've never started rolling.
Whats important to you?
My friends, alone time, drinking water and pasta.
